When Your Identity is Stolen

If you have been unfortunate enough to have already had your identity taken, here are some logical steps to begin repairing the damage.

Step One - First, before you order our product, before you panic:

Call the Police !

If your identity is stolen, you must file a police report. In the police report you should say that it appears that someone is using your credit cards, identity, etc.

You should not accuse anyone directly of stealing your identity, because such a report, if it is not correct, will leave you open to a suit by the party you are accusing.

Don't expect much help from the police. Because they are overwhelmed, over 200 million people were victims last year alone. Do not expect the police to prosecute your claim, because this rarely happens. The burden will rest with you.

According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America. The average victim spends over $1100 and almost 200 hours in time trying to salvage their identity after it is stolen. It is projected that over 30 million people well be victimized by the end of the year.

Still you must start with the police. If you don't start with the police, you cannot get out of the problems the thief may create for you. In fact, you may become an accomplice to the fraud. Without the police reports, your credit card companies will continue to hold you liable. You are the victim, but the burden is on you to prove that your identity is stolen, because until you can prove it, you will be presumed to be the one committing the fraud by refusing to pay your credit card bill.

Step Two - Call the three credit bureaus

Equifax (800)525-6285,
Experian (888)397-3742
Trans Union (800)680-7289

You need to place a "fraud alert" on your credit accounts. This will make it difficult for anyone, including you, to get credit.

My sister-in-law that had her identity stolen plans to keep the fraud alert on her account. Often these companies require that you purchase your credit history, before they will work with you.

Step Three - Order Winning the Identity Theft War to learn all the steps you need to take to regain your good name. The frustrating thing about identity theft is that you are required to prove your innocence and regain your good name. It is important to cover every base. Winning the Identity Theft War will walk you through those steps leading you around the pitfalls.

Step Four - Finally learn how to protect yourself from future theft. When you are traveling you know it is unwise to walk down the street with all of your money in your purse or wallet. You lose everything if it gets taken. If you have taken part of the money out and put some of it in your front pocket and some of it in your money belt, then when your wallet gets stolen, you don't lose everything.

Winning The Identity Theft War allows you to create additional "legal pockets" to keep your assets in, which divides up your property so that it is not all at risk at the same time.
