During the year 2002, it was estimated that 10 million people were victimized by identity theft. Projections for the year 2003 are more than 30 million.

Definition of Identity Theft

Identity Theft is when someone unlawfully uses your personal information to obtain credit, service, make purchases, cash checks, or apply and receive loans in your name. Don't kid yourself; you are at risk... and it is a nightmare when your identity is stolen.

Consider Clara, who went to Europe for three weeks this summer. She prepaid her bills, canceled the paper, etc. When she got home, there was mail from each of her credit card companies canceling her credit cards. As she unwound this she found that her social security number had been used to declare bankruptcy. We handled the matter for her, and it was an expensive nightmare.

Almost every person with reasonable credit and financial strength will have their identity stolen within the next few years. Almost everybody now knows someone who has had their identity stolen.
